Marineau Mills Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Calistoga 2019
A beautifully classic vintage. An ideal and auspicious debut for Marineau Mills Vineyards.
October 5th, 2019. It was as lovely an October morning as one could hope for, and under clear skies, a small, inaugural crop of Marineau Mills Cabernet Sauvignon made its way into the winery, and our adventure as vintners began.
How did we get here? Just a few months prior, we were searching for a Calistoga homesite. But when found the parcel at 4000 Silverado Trail, it was love at first sight. Fast forward to that October morning, and to that impeccable lot of Cabernet grapes, and our dreams had quickly become a reality.
While that part was fast, the rest took time. Those grapes became a beautifully balanced, expressive wine, which aged in French oak barrels for 20 months until bottling in June 2021.
Our inaugural 2019 Marineau Mills Cabernet Sauvignon captures the essence of this geologically diverse vineyard estate, with an expressive profile of fresh fruit, warming spices, and earthy complexity. Aromas of ripe blackberries mingle with hints of toast, cinnamon and mocha. Herbaceous undertones and a subtle layer of leather add depth, reflecting the unique terroir of our small, cherished vineyard.
On the palate, this wine offers a balanced interplay of lush, juicy fruit and vibrant freshness, supported by a firm tannic backbone that extends to a long, satisfying finish. A harmonious blend of structure and finesse, it speaks to the excellent growing season that allowed for even ripening and natural brightness in the fruit.
With only 80 cases produced, this debut vintage holds a special place in our hearts. An added bonus: while this wine will continue to age beautifully, it is already a cellar-conditioned bottle, aged by us and ready for you to enjoy today.
